Garden Balustrade

Ball and socket balustrading has many architectural, domestic and horticultural uses.
An application in a Central London rooftop garden is hown here.
This was a custom made design and the principal simplicity of the Ball and Socket cable assembly enabled stainless steel cables to be easily strung between secured support arms.
Once the cables were in place the garden designers were able to plant their shrubs and guide them using our Ball and Socket stainless steel cable as a trellis guide and support.
The system involved securing each surface mounted socket to a tubular steel support bar using the internal tube clip and countersunk threaded screw.
These support bars were mounted at an angle so as to contour the tiled roof. Small custom made decorative steel balls were attached onto the cables to provide an added feature.
This image shows part of one of the uprights with the swaged ball ends firmly locked into place in the mounting sockets. The cables are produced with these terminations already 'swaged' onto the wire. The ball end is clipped into the socket using the access opening on the side of the socket.
The correct tension is achieved by tightening the cable end that has been swaged with the theaded tensioner, as can be seen above. The cable is then secured by tightening the lock nut to ensure that there is no slippage. The simplicity of the method of mounting the Ball and Socket cables means that it is relativley staightforward to dis-assemble them if the gardener wants to re-design the plant layout.
